COVID-19 Update at St. Matthew’s Church

My family in Christ,

The coronavirus has impacted almost every aspect of daily life. We’re in a situation that we’ve never seen before and that changes daily.  St. Matthew’s is working to adapt to these changes but remain true to our mission of sharing the gospel in our homes and community.  We also want to be good citizens and neighbors and do our part to prevent the spread of this disease.  Because of this, we will no longer gather for worship and all church activities involving more than 10 people are cancelled.

Ministry at St. Matthew’s, however, will still continue.  Just as we would encourage you to join us for worship in our building, we now encourage you to join us remotely.  You can worship with us through our services:

·         Available on Facebook:  (Please note, you do not need an active Facebook account to view our videos)

·         Broadcasted on the radio every Sunday morning at 11 am on 1380 AM or 101.5 FM

·         Played on HBC channel 20 on Sunday morning at 9 am, or Wednesday evening at 7 pm.

·         Played on Charter channel 986 on Sunday evening at 7 pm, or Tuesday evening at 7 pm.

Please note that Wednesday night Lent worship will only be available on Facebook.  Service folders will be posted on Facebook and our website.  If you would like a hymnal, a printed paper or large-print service folder, or a DVD to participate in these services please contact the church office.

During these difficult days personal Bible Study will also be critical.  Please consider the following options:

·         From our Synod:

·         Time of Grace:

·         Our church library has a display of devotion books that you can check out in our church basement

Even though we won’t be meeting in person for a time, ministry will continue to take place and our buildings still need to be maintained.  Perhaps most importantly, we still have blessings to be thankful for.  You can still give a thank offering by mailing it in to the church office (766 W Wabasha St, Winona, MN 55987), dropping it off during business hours, or electronically:

Please also remember to come before God in prayer.  Pray that God would mercifully bless our church and school and our community and nation.  Pray for healing to all those affected and strength for those concerned.  Christ has given us every reason to be confident.  Let’s use this gift as never before.

More information will be shared as it becomes available.  Including some new and opportunities for online Bible Study.  We will do our best to keep the office open from 9 AM to 3 PM from Monday through Friday.  Don’t hesitate to reach out to our pastors with any questions or concerns.

Like everyone in our nation we find ourselves in a challenging time.  As Christians, our situation is never hopeless.  God’s love and forgiveness remain constant no matter what our economy or national health is facing.  These challenges create new opportunities to listen to the anxious and to speak boldly about our hope in Christ with those who have no hope.  Our quieter schedules make regular worship and devotions much easier.  God will walk beside us and bless us through it all.

Christ’s servant to you,

Pastor Schoell
