Curriculum
At St. Matthew’s, the teachers plan for an education and environment
that is developmentally appropriate.
Foundation
The St. Matthew’s Pre-K curriculum is based on the foundation and knowledge of the MN Department of Education Early Childhood Indicators of Progress.
These learning standards include:
- Social and Emotional Development
- Approaches to Learning
- Language, Literacy, and Communication
- The Arts
- Social Systems: Cognitive
- Physical and Movement Development
- Mathematics
- Scientific Thinking
Philosophy
Curriculum philosophy for St. Matthew’s Pre-K is based on the High Scope Curriculum.
Curriculum and lesson plans are designed for a progression of learning through each of the 2 Day / 3 Day / 5 Day class offerings.
Teachers observe what the child can do and, extending that learning opportunity, encourage each child’s growth, development, and learning necessary to build toward the next step.
